Artist Research: Megan Kimber
Megan Kimber is an American painter/illustrator born in 1975 in Poughkeepsie, New York where she grew up, although she now lives and works in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1997 with a BFA in Illustration and received her master's degree in illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design and has exhibited her paintings and illustrations in galleries in Rhode Island, New York, Savannah and Birmingham in the Nordys gallery and has designed skateboards for Yellow Brand Skateboarding. She was listed in the May 2008 issue of of 3x3 magazine. The magazine Lipstick described her work as such:
"You say "creepy," we say "moody." Megan's art has an uncanny quality about it, as if she has captured the fleeting images of a strange but beautiful dream. And what a dream it is: somber-faced little girls, lions that look ready to speak, unearthly figures (and sheep) that cavort as if set free from a Hieronymus Bosch painting."
I enjoy her painting because of the technical aspects like the quality of hundreds of defined planes of color all interacting intelligently to tell a story and the mood it subsequently evokes.
