Artist Research: Daniel Bueno

Daniel Bueno is an architect, illustrator, comics artist and graphic designer from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of Sao Paulo in 2001. He has done illustrations for postcards, magazines, as well as logo designs and illustrates for Folha de S. Paulo and the magazine Caros Amigos. He contributes to publications of Editorial Abril and the Front comic book. Illustrationmundo.com classifies him as a pop surrealist. His style is based on a collage technique that employs the use of anatomically stylized characters, painterly texture, photographic elements, and pattern. I think his work is compelling because of its deceptive simplicity. The flatness of space in most of his painting and 'naive' proportions of his figures create a unique and fun visual communication. For this reason I think his work also translates well into animation which you can see at his site.
