Artist Research: Natalie Ascencios

Natalie Ascencios is a well known American illustrator and graduate of the New School University’s Eugene Lang College and Parsons School of Design in NY/Paris. Ascencios has been a commercial illustrator since 1994. She has won many awards-for both illustration and puppetry. She now teaches drawing in the New York School of Visual Arts. She has also done murals and exhibited her work in the U.S. and abroad, with some of her work in private collections like Sean Penn, Kevin Smith and Oprah Winfrey. I find her work attractive because of her delicate use of color and the presence of 'drawing' in her paintings. Her paintings breath life because of these reasons and her inclusion of themes of music, history, and culture. She regularly publishes work in the New York Times Review of Book, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, GQ, Penguin Books, Entertainment Weekly, Simon and Schuster and several Illustration Annuals.
